Myopia
Myopia is a very common visual disorder that causes the image of an object to be blurred at a distance and sharp at close range.
Risk factors include
- Hereditary
- Lack of outdoor activities
- Screen time
A person suffering from myopia may present the following symptoms:
- Need to squint to read
- Difficulty seeing at night
- Visual fatigue and headaches
Hyperopia
Hyperopia is a visual disorder that makes vision blurred at close range, and in some cases, both near and far. Hyperopia can be compensated for by visual effort up to a certain age.
A person with hyperopia may present the following symptoms:
- Visual fatigue
- Headaches
Astigmatism
Astigmatism is a visual disorder in which vision is blurred in one axis and sharp in the other. The image of an object is formed on two different planes. It may or may not be associated with other visual defects such as myopia or hyperopia.
A person with astigmatism may present the following symptoms:
- Blurred and distorted vision
- Difficulty estimating distances
- Visual fatigue and headaches
Presbyopia
Presbyopia is a common visual problem from the age of 40, defined by a progressive loss of near vision, prompting patients to stretch out their arms to read.
A person suffering from presbyopia may present the following symptoms:
- Need to stretch out your arms to read
- Need for more lighting
- Visual fatigue
